FRENCH DRAIN INSTALLATION

There are different types of French drains—the types used in landscaping are for dealing with excess surface water. For example, if your neighbor’s land stands at a higher elevation than yours, you may get water runoff from your neighbor after a heavy rain. Since you can’t change the neighbor’s land, you need better yard drainage to deal with all the water. A French drain is a common and inexpensive solution. It has no drain pipe (which is prone to clogging anyway) and has gravel running all the way to the surface. This design is sometimes referred to as a swale.
